Student data and privacy
What Flash Reference keeps about students, for how long, and who can see it.
This page summarizes what Flash Reference keeps about students, and who can see it. Our privacy policy and security pages have the full details.
What your LMS sends
When a student opens a deck, your LMS sends their name, email address, LMS user id and role. Flash Reference uses these to save the student's progress and show instructors who's studying. Students never create an account or a password.
What's kept, and for how long
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Each Know it or Still learning mark, and study sessions | 12 months |
| Each student's current progress on each card (their review schedule) | As long as the student and the card exist |
Nothing is saved for guests on a website. We don't use student data for marketing or advertising.
Who can see it
| Who | Sees |
|---|---|
| Instructors | Results for their own decks and decks they collaborate on: each student's name, email, course and progress, and which cards are hardest. |
| Admins | Results for every deck in your organization, and organization-wide counts. |
| Students | Only their own progress, while they study. |
Results only include students from your organization's own courses and website. Instructors, previews and guests aren't included.
Downloads
Instructors and admins can download results as CSV spreadsheets. The Students download includes students' names and email addresses, so store and share it the way your school handles other student records.
Accessibility
Flash Reference is designed to work with keyboards, screen readers and zoom. Our accessibility statement and conformance report say what we've tested and what's still being worked on.
